What You Will Do:

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering & Innovation, the Grid Innovation Specialist is a new and critical role within the Grid Modernization department that will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and piloting new business models and technologies aligned with GrandBridge Energy's strategic objectives. Working effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, this role will support the research, development, and implementation of emerging technologies and business models that drive grid modernization and enhance the customer experience.

  • Lead the delivery of demonstration projects, grid innovation initiatives, and business transformation efforts that align with GrandBridge Energy’s strategic objectives
  • In collaboration with cross-functional project teams, conduct research to identify and assess opportunities for innovation, including researching and securing external funding sources for projects
  • Forecast costs and determine budget for project financials and required incentive funding to support initiatives; then monitor and track spend to ensure project is executed within budget
  • Develop and implement innovation-related projects, assisting in mobilizing internal resources to ensure organizational readiness for change and new business models, and facilitate stakeholder engagement to ensure successful implementation of new business models and technologies
  • Provide updates, reports, and presentations to stakeholders to communicate and assess progress and areas of opportunity
  • Research and analyze business models, and monitor industry transformation initiatives and advancements in government, regulatory, and industry legislation/standards pertaining to electrification, sustainability, and climate change
  • Analyze industry trends and emerging technologies within energy sector and make recommendations to the business based on analyses
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, business partners, vendors, and industry experts
  • Act as an advocate for innovation and act as the subject matter expert on innovation topics within the organization
  • Solicit, document, and share lessons learned from innovation projects to inform future initiatives
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to attend conferences, industry events, and other networking opportunities as needed

What You Will Bring:

  • 4 to 6 years’ experience in a research and development role utilizing a variety of research and development methodologies, ideally with some experience working in the energy and utility sector would be considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully executing large, complex projects on time and within budget; Project Management Certification (PMP) designation is an asset
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the willingness to try new things in unchartered territory using a forward-thinking approach is a must
  • Knowledge of distributed energy technologies and regulatory frameworks (i.e. OEB Codes) and/or software and hardware systems related to Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMs) is considered a strong asset
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Energy Systems / Technologies, or related field; a combination of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Strong financial background with the ability to conduct forecasting, budgeting, expense management, and reporting activities
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with experience analyzing large, complex datasets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage and engage stakeholders at all levels
  • Polished presentation skills with the ability influence and engage diverse audiences
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to effectively manage competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
