An established industry player is seeking a Commercial Development Engineer to deliver technical details for tenders related to innovative commercial market products. This role involves translating complex tender requirements, validating compliance with industry standards, and ensuring that all submissions meet the necessary criteria. The Commercial Development Engineer delivers the technical details required for National Grid (ESO) tenders for commercial market products for First Hydro. Example provided Mid-term Stability Product 1.
Commercial products transform Pump / Turbine Unit capability and availability into income from market schemes proposed by National Grid. These products are becoming increasingly technical as the ESO seeks confirmation of Unit capability, performance modelling under operational circumstances, and compliance with Grid Code obligations.
This delivery of technical details requires the translation of tender requirements, confirmation that generators shall be compliant with product requirements, and the submission of completed tenders to the ESO.
Translate tender requirements and determine the required electrical system and turbine/generator data to support compliance with the products.
Establish and validate models to demonstrate compliance with product delivery and Grid Code compliance in line with tender requirements.
Provide expert advice and direction within Electrical / Control Systems associated with Turbine / Generator and Electrical systems.
Planned, directed, and organized resources and managed contractors to deliver assigned projects in line with relevant tender requirements.
Assess, select, negotiate, and manage contracts/assignments to provide technical/commercial support to tender requirements, undertaking the role of Technical Officer and Responsible Officer with limited supervision.
Implement initiatives to improve the management of quality and ensure delivery of tenders is within the safe operating capability of the units and systems.
Analyse and determine solutions for plant-level problems associated with the delivery of market products and ensure compliance with Grid Code requirements.
Delivery of work packages to quality, time, and budget.
Delivery of tenders according to specified delivery windows.
Manage risk levels as low as reasonably practicable.
Fully document all projects.
All work needs to be planned and delivered within budget, on time, and to the required quality.
Efficient use of suppliers, consultants, and internal resources to deliver technical details.
Minimize business disruption.
Calculate, model, and validate technical details to determine tender compliance.
Generator / Motor / Electrical System design capability, fault condition modelling/validation.
Demonstrate compliance, and determine measured values of capability.
Document technical details ascertained during the tender process.
Ensure delivery of the products is within safe operating windows.
Document Grid Code compliance assumptions.
Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with others to achieve required tender outcomes.
Work effectively with industry-led Grid Code and CUSC working groups, as appropriate.
Technical Officer/Responsible Officer on complex and/or business critical contracts with the minimum level of supervision from the line manager.
Expertise in generator/motor design capabilities, HV electrical system fault current calculation.
Familiarity with the Grid Code and the CUSC modification process.
Engagement with ESO and industry working groups when changes to either Grid Code or CUSC modification are proposed that have the potential to affect existing or future operations.
Leading multiple work teams and experts to deliver tender requirements.
Experience in Project Management using internal and external resources.
Experience within the electrical engineering discipline.
Degree or equivalent qualifications/experience.
