The Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Manager (GIBM) is an exciting new role requiring a flexible candidate with excellent greenspace, contract management and people skills who can work alongside our Divisional Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity Manager (DGIBM) to deliver sector leading greenspace and habitat management. This is a hybrid role combining office-based work with regular site inspections, audits and stakeholder engagement. Typically, you will spend four days per week visiting sites, monitoring contractor performance, assessing landscape quality, inspecting habitats and environmental assets, and identifying improvement opportunities.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of greenspaces, public open spaces and associated environmental assets within a defined geographic area. Your role will focus on ensuring landscapes, habitats, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) features, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and other greenspace infrastructure are maintained to a high standard and managed in accordance with approved management plans, planning obligations and company objectives.

Acting as the primary on-site representative, you will build positive relationships with residents, contractors, developers and stakeholders, responding to queries and ensuring concerns are resolved effectively. Supported by a central customer services team, you will deliver a visible presence across your sites and promote high-quality greenspace management and environmental stewardship.

This is a hybrid role combining office-based work with regular site inspections, audits and stakeholder engagement. Typically, you will spend four days per week visiting sites, monitoring contractor performance, assessing landscape quality, inspecting habitats and environmental assets, and identifying improvement opportunities.

You will be responsible for specifying remedial works, monitoring contractor performance, scrutinising completed works and ensuring expenditure is controlled appropriately. You will also support the review and development of landscape specifications, management plans, site budgets and maintenance programmes.

The role includes undertaking pre-handover inspections of new developments, auditing landscape installations, habitat creation areas, SuDS features, public open spaces and ecological enhancements to ensure compliance with approved plans, planning conditions, Section 106 obligations and BNG requirements before acceptance into management.

Where sites are subject to Biodiversity Net Gain requirements, you will support the implementation, monitoring and reporting of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and long-term environmental objectives.

Regular travel across your designated area will be required, along with occasional attendance at company offices, training events, meetings and industry activities. You may also provide support to neighbouring areas when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality greenspace,biodiversityand estate services across your area, undertaking site inspections and specifying improvement and remedialworks.
  • Ensure compliance with inspection regimes, statutory requirements,record-keepingand reporting obligations.
  • Manage landscape, habitat and estate maintenance contracts, monitoring performance, quality, compliance and value for money.
  • Inspect completed works against approved specifications, management plans, drawings and contract requirements.
  • Undertake audits of new developments before handover, ensuring compliance with planning conditions, Section 106 obligations, approved landscape schemes, ecological mitigation measures and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) commitments.
  • Inspect planting, BNG habitats, wildlife features, Sustainable Drainage Systems ( SuDS ), openspacesand associated estate infrastructure,identifyingand resolving defects before adoption.
  • Monitor and report on BNG and Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan requirements.
  • Inspect SuDS assets to ensure they remain safe, functional and maintained in accordance with approved specifications.
  • Maintain accurate asset records, plans, inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Liaise with developers, contractors, consultants, local authorities and other stakeholders on greenspace and environmental management matters.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, responding to enquiries, complaints and estate management concerns.
  • Support community engagement activities, including biodiversity projects, planting initiatives and nature events.
  • Assist with procurement, contractor appointments and specification development.
  • Support presentations, site visits, bids and business development activities.
  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues.
  • Undertake training and development to maintain and enhance professional knowledge.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Passion for greenspace, biodiversity and nature recovery.
  • Knowledge of landscape, habitat and environmental management gained through education and/or practical experience.
  • Qualification in horticulture, landscape management, ecology, environmental management or a related discipline. Minimum of Level 3 or Higher
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent health and safety qualification).
  • Good plant identification and horticultural knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, management plans and technicalreports.
  • Understanding of planning conditions, Section 106obligationsand open space adoption requirements.
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain, habitat management and ecological enhancement.
  • Experience undertaking site inspections andidentifyingdefects and maintenancerequirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital inspection/reporting systems.
  • Full UK driving licence .
  • Experience managing landscape, grounds maintenance or estate management contractors.
  • Experience auditing new developments and open space handovers.
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Sustainable Drainage Systems ( SuDS ) management andmaintenance.
  • Understanding of planning compliance and development adoption processes
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Chartered Institute of Horticulture, Landscape Institute or CIEEM ).( D)
