Job summary

Berry Recruitment is seeking a Cemetery Grave Digging Operative to supervise safe digging, site preparation and reinstatement for burials. The role includes manual and machine excavation, plant operation, and weekend standby on-call duties.

The candidate will drive company vehicles, tow trailers up to 3.5T and work within streetcare duties, ensuring compliance with safety standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Full driving licence (>3.5t) required.
• Accredited certification for mini excavators up to 3T is preferable.
• Experience operating mini excavators in confined environments is advantageous.
• Experience towing trailers up to 3.5T.
• Knowledge of general Streetcare duties and related plant is desirable.
• Experience with streetcare machinery (A&I) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Safely prepare, dig and manage grave sites using manual and machine methods.
• Ensure graves are excavated and reinstated safely and topped up as required.
• Work to a standby/on-call rota for weekends and bank holidays.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders and cemetery staff during burial processes.
• Plan and manage workloads around burial schedules and time constraints.
• Operate a range of plant and machinery, drive company vehicles and tow trailers as needed.

Job description

Cemetery Grave Digging Operative - 42 hours per week Mon-Fri + On-call rota for weekend standby works

To be responsible for the safe preparation, digging and management of grave sites, through both manual and machine excavation in line with our client's requirements and instructions.

To ensure all graves are excavated safely, following industry good practice with the use of appropriate shoring equipment, as per instructed date and time instructions.

To ensure all graves are correctly reinstated following burials, and topped up as required/requested.

To be required to be on standby and call-out on rota outside normal working hours (weekends and BH).

To liaise with all clients, stakeholders and other cemetery representatives as part of the burial process

To be responsible for planning and managing work time/loads around burial requirements.

To operate a variety of plant and machinery as required, including mini-excavators, ride-on-mowers, compact tractors, sweepers etc.

To drive company vehicles, tow trailers, and undertake all duties relevant to their proper and safe use.

• Experience in the use of mini excavators within confined environments - preferable
• Experience in towing trailers up to 3.5T
• Experience and knowledge of undertaking a wide range of general Streetcare duties
• Experience and knowledge of operating a wide range of streetcare associated plant and machinery (A&I)
