Job summary

Allscreens Nationwide Ltd in Sutton Coldfield is recruiting a Cemetery Operative on a full-time temporary basis. The role pays £13.45 per hour and involves preparing graves for burials, assisting during services with dignified conduct, and supporting the maintenance of the cemetery and surrounding areas.

You will operate machinery such as mowers and tractors, maintain paths and fences, and ensure all work follows health and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience in cemetery operations or related grounds work.
• Familiarity with health and safety procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare graves for burials, including excavation and backfilling.
• Assist during burial services with dignified conduct.
• General grounds maintenance: mowing, strimming, hedging, weeding, litter picking.
• Maintain cemetery paths, roads, fences, gates and surrounding areas.
• Operate and maintain machinery such as mowers, strimmers, excavators, tractors.
• Ensure health and safety procedures are followed.
• Assist with winter maintenance activities including gritting and snow clearance.
• Complete records and documentation as required.
• Respond to public enquiries courteously and sensitively.
• Report defects and safety hazards promptly.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare graves for burials, including excavation and backfilling where required.
• Assist during burial services, ensuring dignified and professional conduct at all times.
• Carry out general grounds maintenance including grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, weeding, and litter picking.
• Maintain cemetery paths, roads, fences, gates, and surrounding areas.
• Install and remove temporary grave markers and assist with memorial inspections.
• Operate and maintain machinery and equipment such as mowers, strimmers, excavators, and tractors.
• Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Respond courteously and sensitively to enquiries from members of the public.
• Assist with winter maintenance activities, including gritting and snow clearance.
• Complete records and documentation as required.
• Report defects, vandalism, safety hazards, and maintenance issues promptly.
