Job description

Job Title: Grapple Saw Operator

As our Grapple Saw Operator, you will support colleagues with mechanised tree felling and harvesting works, including the use of a grapple saw, in clear fell, thinnings, and Duty of Care (DOC) works.

Responsibilities:
  • Walking sites ahead of works and producing accurate written records for submission.
  • Conducting all tasks to the highest standards, ensuring sites are left tidy and safe.
  • Working harvesting machines efficiently, minimizing idling and stoppages.
  • Completing all forest operations in line with health, safety, and environmental standards, including site management plans and risk assessments.
  • Ensuring machinery and tools are used correctly and operated safely.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance on machinery and completing related paperwork promptly.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Significant experience in large-scale mechanised harvesting, including operating a grapple saw or similar equipment.
  • Harvester FMOCS qualified or CPCS tracked/wheeled machines certification.
  • NPTC certification in chainsaw use (maintenance, cross-cutting, and felling up to 380mm).
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, including GPS/GIS.
  • A full UK driving license is essential for this multi-site role.
  • This role can be physically demanding and involves working at heights outdoors in all weather conditions.
