Job description

JOB TITLE:Grain Store Manager
LINE MANAGER:Estate Director
LOCATION: Nobottle Grain Store, Northamptonshire
CONTRACT: Permanent, full-time, 40 hours a week
DATE: Summer 2025

SUMMARY

The Grain Store Manager will manage, supervise and operate the Grain Store, and assist with other farm, estate maintenance, and forestry work as part of a busy commercial estate.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • To clean and fumigate the grain store pre- and post-harvest.
  • Liaise with contractors and hauliers
  • Weigh and record details for all produce entering and exiting the store (including cleanings).
  • Clean all grain and produce to the required standards
  • Dry all grain and produce to the required standards
  • Store all products in an orderly manner so its identity is preserved
  • Carry out post-harvest inspections of produce in store on a regular basis to ensure quality is maintained.
  • Deal with any storage problems that arise
  • Load out and in an efficient and safe manner
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and checks of plant equipment and the telehandler etc.
  • Keep the site clean and tidy, free of weeds, rubbish and other debris
  • Liaise with the Estate Director and the Estate Office with regard to ordering fuel, maintenance and repairs
  • Take delivery of fertilizer and seed, and record and manage stocks of the same.
  • Manage control of vermin and other pests
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures at all times.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Assist with farm maintenance work, including hedge-cutting, ditching, drainage, repairs and spraying.
  • Operating the digger as required.
  • Manage the grassland, including topping, harrowing and spraying
  • Assist with the establishment of game covers as needed
  • Assist the Forestry team with fencing and other work as needed
  • Service tractors and other machinery
  • Undertake other reasonable ad-hoc jobs around the Estate from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Good time management
  • Ability to interact with a range of staff, customers and contractors in a professional and friendly manner
  • Knowledge of commercial estates, farming, grains and produce
  • A good knowledge of health and safety of grain store operations
  • Licenced to operate farm machinery, loaders and diggers
  • Full, clean UK Driving License
