Job description

The Opportunity

With every community, Stantec redefines what's possible.

Application Deadline: Recruitment is ongoing. Please apply as soon as possible as the advert may close once we have sufficient applicants.

We are looking for a Graduate Water Resources Consultant for our Water team in Leeds, joining our 2026 Graduate Programme.

As a Stantec graduate, you will collaborate with your team and wider cohort, developing your expertise within an exciting and creative interdisciplinary environment.

The Opportunity

Water resource requirements now and in the future will be significantly impacted by global trends in population growth, climate change, environmental requirements, energy production, and agricultural needs. These challenges have increased Stantec's involvement in UK and Ireland water resources planning, including contributions to Strategic Resource Option investigations, Water Resource Management Plans, Drought Plans, and Water Industry National Environment Programme investigations. Supporting our water company clients through the AMP8 regulatory cycle remains a key focus for Stantec in 2026.

To support this growing workload, Stantec is seeking a Graduate Water Resources Planner to join our Water Environment team. You will learn to provide technical advice and innovative solutions to water resource investigations, preparing reports and deliverables. You will collaborate effectively with water companies, regulators (e.g., Environment Agency, Ofwat, DWI, RAPID), design engineers, contractors, planners, and stakeholders to ensure project success.

You will develop in-depth knowledge of UK and global water resources and drought planning processes, gain experience in modeling water resource availability, and complete assessments such as water resource options, management plans, drought plans, WINEP investigations, catchment management, climate change impact assessments, and WFD assessments.

About you

At Stantec, we value potential over experience. Along with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Geography or an Environmental-related subject, with an interest in the Water sector, you will be:

  • An Adapter - Able to remain calm in new and changing situations, switching between tasks.
  • A Perseverer - Staying composed in setbacks, approaching challenges confidently.
  • An Eager Learner - Learning from experiences and the environment to anticipate outcomes.
  • A Collaborator - Working effectively with diverse people, considering different perspectives.
  • A Problem-Solver - Offering thoughtful insights and challenging conventional thinking.

Please note, graduates are expected to work in the office 4 days a week for support and collaboration.

What we offer

  • A competitive salary
  • Private medical insurance
  • Benefits like holiday buy/sell, income protection, and life assurance
  • Permanent employment to support your long-term career
  • Professional progression towards chartership
  • A supportive team environment and ERG network

Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK indefinitely.

See our Graduate FAQs for questions. We look forward to your application!
