GSL Education are welcoming applications for a dedicated and ambitious Graduate Teaching Assistant to work with Post-16 learners in an inclusive and forward-thinking educational setting in Ashington.

This role offers a unique opportunity for aspiring teachers, educational psychologists, or youth workers to gain valuable classroom-based experience while making a meaningful contribution to the personal and academic development of students aged 16 and above.

About the Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support Post-16 students across a range of academic pathways, including A-levels, vocational qualifications, and transition support programmes. Your role will involve working closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality interventions, promote independent study, and ensure that all learners receive the tailored support they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Individual Learning: Help implement personalised learning plans.
  • Provide Targeted Support: Offer 1:1 and small group assistance tailored to student needs.
  • Monitor Progress: Track student development and adjust support as required.
  • Collaborate with Staff and Families: Work closely with teachers, support teams, and parents/carers.
  • Create a Positive Environment: Help build a space where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged.
  • Engage Learners: Use a variety of strategies to maintain student interest and adapt to different learning styles.
  • Keep Accurate Records: Maintain documentation of student progress and share insights with staff.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience: Previous experience supporting Post 16 students is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Confident communicator with students, staff, and families.
  • Empathy & Patience: A caring, understanding, and encouraging attitude.
  • Team Player: Able to work collaboratively with others in the school setting.
  • Qualifications: Educational qualifications are desirable, but passion and dedication are just as important.
  • Safeguarding: A solid understanding of child protection and willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check (or have one on the Update Service).
