Location:Consett and Stanley (Various Partner Schools)
Start Date:September 2025
Contract:Full Academic Year (Fixed-Term)

OurFuture Teachers Programmeis designed for recent graduates who are eager to gain invaluable classroom experience and take the first step toward becoming a qualified teacher. The programme is open to graduates inEnglish,Maths,Science,Humanities,Modern Foreign Languages, orPsychology.

This is apaid, full-time positionwhere you will gain hands-on experience as aTeaching AssistantorCover Supervisor, while receiving guidance and mentorship to prepare you for your next steps in teacher training.

Programme Overview:

  • Classroom Experience:As aTeaching AssistantorCover Supervisor, you will support teachers in the delivery of lessons, provide 1:1 and small group support, and ensure the students stay on task.
  • Training & CPD:You’ll receive tailored training in key teaching strategies, classroom management, and lesson delivery, as well as workshops on educational theory, safeguarding, and special educational needs.
  • Support and Mentorship:Throughout the year, you will be paired with a mentor who is an experienced teacher. They will guide you through your professional development, helping you to build teaching skills and confidence in the classroom.
  • Opportunities for Progression:If you excel during the programme, there will be the opportunity to apply for a place on a teacher training programme (such as a PGCE or SCITT) through one of our partner schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting Learning:Work closely with students to reinforce lesson content, provide additional explanations, and offer academic support to individuals or small groups.
  • Classroom Management:Help maintain a positive learning environment by supporting teachers with behaviour management and ensuring students are on task.
  • Engagement:Actively engage with students, promoting a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
  • Personal Development:Take ownership of your own learning journey by participating in CPD opportunities, mentoring sessions, and feedback discussions.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualifications:A degree (or due to graduate in 2025) inEnglish,Maths,Science,Psychology, or a related subject.
  • GCSE Maths and English
  • Sufficient right to work
  • Interest in Teaching:A passion for education, with a clear desire to become a qualified teacher.
  • Skills:Strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work effectively with young people.
  • Personality:An enthusiastic, hardworking, and adaptable individual who thrives in a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Experience:While experience working with young people is desirable, we welcome applications from recent graduates looking to start their teaching journey.
