Job summary

Amey in Birmingham is recruiting a Graduate Bridges and Civil Structures Engineer to join our Consulting team on UK projects.

As a graduate, you’ll work on exciting programmes from day one, developing practical skills in structural analysis, design and asset management.

Starting in September 2027, you’ll learn from industry experts and help shape the future of the UK’s infrastructure while benefiting from Amey’s comprehensive development and hybrid working options.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Civil or Structural Engineering (minimum Grade 2:1)
  • Interest in bridges/civil structures
  • Commitment to sustainable development

Responsibilities

  • Be part of an experienced team, working on UK and international projects.
  • Develop practical, sustainable solutions for bridges and civil structures from investigation to design and asset management.
  • Undertake structural analysis, design and assessment calculations.
  • Develop carbon and cost estimates, 3D models, drawings and technical documents.
  • Assist with bridge inspections, investigations, SHM, and supervision of works.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of data, analytics and digital technology solutions.

About the Team

Our bridges and civil structures team work across a range of sectors including transportation, water and energy. Our clients include National Highways, Transport Scotland, Network Rail, Welsh Government, Department for Infrastructure, MOW Bahamas, Local Authorities and D&B Contractors. We have multiple long-term contracts and continue to grow and expand into new regions and markets. Recent / ongoing projects include:

  • National Highways Scheme Delivery Frameworks
  • Severn Bridges Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance
  • Bahamas Glass Windows Bridge replacement
  • Network Rail TransPennine Route Upgrade
  • ADEPT Live Labs 2 Decarbonisation programme
  • A66 Northern Trans-Pennine upgrade design
  • Transport for London Infrastructure Improvement Framework
What you’ll be doing

As a Bridges and Civil Structures Graduate you will:

  • Be part of an experienced team, working on some of the most exciting and challenging projects across the UK and internationally.
  • Help develop practical, sustainable solutions for bridges and civil structures; from investigation to optioneering, feasibility, concept and detailed design, construction supervision and asset management.
  • Undertake structural analysis, design and assessment calculations.
  • Develop carbon and cost estimates, 3D models, drawings and technical documents.
  • Assist with bridge inspections, investigations, structural health monitoring, and supervision of works
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of world-class data, analytics and digital technology solutions.
