Job summary

Understanding Recruitment is seeking a Junior Test Software Engineer for a UK software company building finance and procurement platforms. You will write code in Java, build automated tests, and work across APIs, databases and web applications within a production engineering environment.

This is a hands-on role for someone early in their career with a Computer Science / Software Engineering background who enjoys coding and problem solving.

Qualifications

Looking to start your career in Software Engineering?

I’m hiring a Junior Test Software Engineer for an established UK software company building finance and procurement platforms used by major public-sector organisations.

This isn’t a traditional manual testing role. You’ll be writing code in Java, building automated tests and working across APIs, databases and web applications within a real production engineering environment.

Key focus:

• Build automated tests using Java & Selenium
• Work with SQL, Cucumber, JUnit/TestNG & Git
• Investigate failures and work closely with developers
• Help maintain and improve existing automation frameworks

This would suit someone early in their career with a Computer Science / Software Engineering background who enjoys coding, problem solving and wants strong hands-on engineering experience.

You don’t need to know every testing framework already - strong Java fundamentals, OOP knowledge and a willingness to learn are much more important.
