Company Overview
This opportunity sits within the Electrical Hardware Engineering team in the Chelmsford Space Imaging business unit. Space science is at the core of understanding the Universes origins and future. The sensor device technology includes Charge Coupled Devices (CCDs) CMOS image detectors (visible and infrared) and their associated Read Out ICs (ROICs). From the earliest signs of the Big Bang to the effects of solar activity on the Earth the detailed scientific information and images obtained with Teledyne Space Imagings CCD and CMOS sensors are helping us understand more about our surroundings. The imaging sensors developed and tested at the Chelmsford site have been used on humanities most important space imaging missions. These include the Hubble Telescope Keplar GAIA Mars Rovers New Horizons and Rosetta to name but a few.
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
This position is open to all levels of experience. Work includes both the design and testing of cameras required to characterise and verify the performance of our space imaging sensors. The electrical hardware is required to control the drive and acquisition of our highspeed Imaging Sensors. We are also expanding the business to design Front End Electronics for space with the TRUTHS mission being our first major contract.
The Engineer will be working in crossfunctional teams reporting to Project Managers and Project Lead Engineers to ensure project requirements are met and verified in line with the defined project plan. The engineer will also ensure our capabilities are maintained at the cutting edge and are aligned with our development roadmaps. For experienced applicants the role will involve mentoring and coaching of other engineers in the team. Driving our capabilities forward will require acquiring an intimate knowledge of how our current and new devices operate along with the practical application of the test circuits and peripheral subsystems that make up the wider picture with respect to the testing and validation of the sensors.
In collaboration with the wider engineering team the Engineer will provide bid and business development support will include reviewing and specifying technical proposals conducting trade off analysis and supplying estimates for effort and material cost.
Key responsibilities:
Full PCB design for space applications including component selection schematic capture analysis documentation stackup definition and administration of external layout activity.
Preparation and presentation of concepts and designs that meet the requirements specifications driven both by internal and external customer needs. Maintain and update compliance verification matrix with respect to electrical requirements.
Capturing detailed system architecture by way of interface diagrams and charts; using them to embellish lifecycle documentation to navigate through gate reviews and progress the development efficiently.
Preparing and presenting all necessary documentation relevant to the electrical design for gate reviews both internal and external. The engineer will be expected to communicate clearly and effectively to all stakeholders.
The successful candidate is expected to play a key role in driving capability within the department for experienced applicants this will include mentoring and training of engineers within the team.
Taking a strong lead with verification and testing of electronics and preparation of wellstructured and clear associated documentation.
For experienced applicants a good understanding of the engineering lifecycle required for high reliability electronics and adherence to relevant standards is advantageous.
SkillsExperience & Qualifications:
Knowledge of PCB design approaches required when dealing with HiSpeed circuitry.
Ability to create electronic designs that are innovative and add value to new and existing test systems.
Demonstration of working to standards for high reliability.
PCB CAD skills are essential with an advantage to candidates who have CADENCE or ALTIUM experience.
Strong and indepth understanding of electronics and electrical interfaces.
Ability to convey technical data and complex electrical designs in an easytounderstand format.
Space electronics experience considered advantageous.
