Are you a psychology, education, or social sciences graduate looking for hands-on experience in special educational needs (SEN) and mental health? Do you want to make a real difference in the lives of children with additional needs while gaining invaluable experience for your future career?

A fantastic school in Westbury is seeking a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as next week. This school supports children and teenagers aged 3 to 16 with a range of additional learning needs including: Autism, Speech and Language Difficulties, learning disabilities, mental health challenges, and physical disabilities.

The Role:
  • Support students in a small class setting, helping them with learning activities and personal development.
  • Use creative and therapeutic approaches (e.g., sensory play, Makaton, PECS) to support communication and engagement.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and become a positive role model in their lives.
  • Work closely with the teachers, speech therapists, and educational psychologists to develop tailored support strategies.
  • Help students build life skills, as well as manage and handle challenging behaviours.

This is a fantastic opportunity if you are a recent graduate looking to build your experience in SEN and mental health. You will gain on-the-job training in autism strategies, behaviour management, and communication techniques - excellent skills for those considering a career in Educational psychology, Speech Therapy, or Counselling.

The school is seeking a graduate with a degree in Psychology, Education, or Health & Social Care, who is kind, patient, and compassionate. While prior experience working with children or vulnerable adults is beneficial, a genuine passion for supporting young people is the most important factor!
