The Role – Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant

As a Graduate SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Use de‑escalation, emotional regulation, and behaviour support strategies
  • Help pupils build confidence, resilience, and positive relationships
  • Support learning in the classroom and adapt activities based on individual needs
  • Work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to deliver tailored support plans
  • Assist with daily routines, safe spaces, and structured activities to promote wellbeing
  • Create a nurturing, calm, and consistent environment that helps students thrive

Person Specification

To be successful, you must:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology, Mental Health, Education, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field
  • Have graduated within the last two years

  • Have strong communication skills and emotional resilience
  • Be patient, empathetic, and calm under pressure
  • Any experience in youth work, behaviour mentoring, SEN support, mental health work, or children’s services is desirable (but not essential)
