The MDS Graduate program is designed for university leavers with leadership potential. It challenges participants from the start, developing leadership skills through roles with real responsibility across multiple companies during the two-year program. Trainees work towards a Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification, accredited by the Chartered Management Institute.
MDS Members are industry-leading businesses across the food, fresh produce, horticulture, and agriculture supply chain. During the program, trainees undertake at least three placements of 6–12 months, providing broad experience and exploration of strengths and interests without long-term commitment.
Participants receive time off for modular training to achieve the leadership qualification and are supported by mentoring to reach their potential.
Members are based across the UK and overseas, requiring relocation for each placement. Roles span disciplines such as marketing, engineering, operations, HR, logistics, and business planning. Trainees are expected to deliver results through creative problem-solving.
Members often offer permanent roles to trainees, with many securing employment afterward. Over 500 alumni now hold senior positions in leading businesses.
Applicants should demonstrate leadership potential. Academic achievement is valued, with most trainees holding at least a 2:1 degree, but leadership qualities and motivation are primary. Candidates must have UK work permission and be willing to relocate every six months. Travel arrangements are the trainee’s responsibility, especially for rural secondments.
