Pay: £90 (increasing to £100 per day)

Hours: 8:15 am to 3:30 pm and 8:15 am to 2:15 pm on Fridays

We are currently working with an Autism Support Provisions Unit for a secondary school in Barnet. The unit is attached to the main school, which supports approximately 200 students.

About the school provision:

The Special Resource Provision is an additional resource within the mainstream school, offering up to 49 places (seven per year group) for pupils with autistic spectrum conditions (ASC).

The provision is designed for students who:

  • Have a diagnosis of ASC as a primary need in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Can access the Social Thinking curriculum, which uses strategies designed for those with social learning challenges, with near average to well above average cognitive and language skills.
  • Have demonstrated benefits from learning alongside appropriate peer models.
  • In moments of dysregulation, can have their behaviour modified and managed within the medium risk setting provided by the unit.
  • Understand their ASC diagnosis and are willing to engage with learning and support from within the unit.

Curriculum:

Students who can access the main school will follow the National Curriculum, with the goal of taking up to 5 GCSEs at the end of Year 11. Passing at Grade 4 (or equivalent) allows access to sixth form courses within the main school.

The curriculum is highly differentiated, focusing on developing social cognition through the SCERTS framework and Social Thinking curriculum. Most students will also follow ASDAN/CoPE courses, Personal and Social Development, and Employability and Work-Related Learning curricula.

Teaching Assistant Role:

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to join the team in Barnet. Ideally, you will have experience supporting students with autism across the spectrum.

You should be able to:

  • Establish routines with students
  • Consider their learning environment
  • Manage changes and transitions
  • Communicate clearly
  • Integrate students' interests
  • Work collaboratively with parents and carers
  • Build resilience
