Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification

We are on the lookout for a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant who is:

  • A recent graduate with a 1st or 2:1 degree from a top-30 university in Psychology, Education Studies, English, STEM, or a related subject
  • Passionate about working with children in a primary school setting
  • Calm, patient, and responsible – with a warm, approachable personality
  • Able to communicate effectively with pupils and staff
  • Organised, proactive, and willing to get stuck in – whether supporting in class, helping with interventions, or joining playground duty with a smile
  • Some experience working or volunteering with children (desirable, but not essential)

Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant: Day-to-day Responsibilities

As a Graduate Primary Teaching Assistant, no two days are the same – but every day is rewarding. You will:

  • Work 1:1 and in small groups with children who need extra help with reading, writing, maths, or confidence-building
  • Support the class teacher during lessons – managing behaviour, answering questions, encouraging focus, and guiding learning
  • Help to create a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom environment where all children feel supported
  • Get involved in creative and practical activities – from phonics games and maths puzzles to storytelling and role-play
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Receive regular feedback and mentoring from experienced educators
