Job description

A Future with Purpose

At Arup, we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to doing socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity—using technology, imagination, and rigor to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

As Landscape Architects at Arup, we expect our designers to think creatively and innovatively, developing the best outcomes for people, nature, and the environment. Our work plays a crucial role in climate change adaptation by working with natural systems in urban and rural environments to build resilience and mitigate risks. This includes creating green and blue infrastructure strategies, multi-functional and regenerative design, and applying sustainable principles throughout. You will be part of an award-winning team that designs and helps deliver ground-breaking and iconic projects across infrastructure, building design, and specialist technical services. Independent in ownership and spirit, we're a global firm of designers, engineers, consultants, and technical experts committed to making a positive difference in the world.

Arup provides an integrated approach and delivers sustainable solutions for city design and complex urban and rural environments. Our UK landscape teams are based in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Southampton, working on various projects worldwide, with a focus on the UK, India, Middle East, and Africa. Our overseas teams are located in Australia (Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney), Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai), and Europe (Amsterdam, Berlin, Dublin, Istanbul, Madrid, Warsaw).

We differentiate ourselves by our ability to combine skills to solve complex or unusual problems and help clients create an integrated vision for successful and sustainable places.

With a well-established landscape architecture practice, we offer a full range of services, including:

  • Landscape-led masterplanning
  • Concept to detailed design and construction
  • Visualizations/3D modeling
  • Design guidelines and best practices
  • Nature-based design solutions
  • Feasibility studies and area strategies
  • Strategic planning, assessment, and policy reviews

Our landscape teams collaborate closely with urban design, architecture, ecology, town planning, sustainability, engineering, cost consulting, and project management professionals.

Your typical day-to-day responsibilities could include:

  • Assisting with design work and graphics
  • Preparing detailed construction drawings
  • Creating masterplan graphics
  • Producing Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments (LVIA)
  • Drafting clear and concise reports
  • Attending team meetings and project reviews
  • Conducting site surveys
  • Managing your workload to meet deadlines
Is this role right for you?

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications, attributes, and skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related discipline
  • A Master's or Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Management is desirable

This role is based in Sheffield, and we will consider UK-based applications only.

If you hold a Bachelor's degree, you should be committed to obtaining a postgraduate qualification to qualify for chartership while working with us.

We seek curious individuals ready to evolve their thinking and working methods.

Our strength lies in respecting, sharing, and connecting diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality.

If you can share your knowledge, communicate design ideas, and inspire others while delivering excellent client services, we want to hear from you.

You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025.

To be considered for this role, please upload your sample portfolio in PDF format (max 20MB) within the 'supporting documents' section of your application. Use image compression and vector drawings where possible to reduce file size without sacrificing quality.

What we offer you

At Arup, we care about each member’s success, fostering growth together.

Guided by our values, we offer a competitive total reward package that recognizes your contributions. This includes fair pay, career development opportunities, health and wellbeing benefits, learning programs, and impactful work.

Owned in trust for our members, we have the freedom to set our own direction, aligning work with our purpose and Arup’s legacy. Our members collaborate on ambitious projects to deliver remarkable outcomes. Profit sharing is a key part of our rewards, allowing members to share in the collective success.

We also provide private medical insurance, life assurance, accident insurance, income protection, and adaptable benefits to support your wellbeing and personal needs.
