Details Specific to the Post
The Humber Outreach Programme (HOP) is the Humber region’s partnership within the Office for Students’ Uni Connect programme, working collaboratively to reduce educational inequalities and support young people from underrepresented backgrounds to make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways.
The University of Hull is the lead institution for a consortium of nine higher education providers, regional schools, the four Humber local authorities, two Local Skills Improvement Partnerships and the Skills & Growth Hubs/Careers Enterprise Company, which oversee the Humber Outreach Programme (HOP).
The consortium has been working collaboratively on outreach and attainment raising to schools and colleges with the aim of increasing progression to higher education.
The Programme works with schools, colleges, community engagement partners and a variety of stakeholders across the region to effectively support young people from under-represented backgrounds in breaking down the barriers in accessing all Higher Education pathways and supporting the government’s social mobility and skills strategies.
The programme delivers activities, events, online courses, information via websites and publications, as well as careers guidance, mentoring, attainment raising and funding.
The post will see the successful candidate based at the University of Hull, whilst working in a hybrid model, involving travel to deliver sessions and attending meetings across the HOP region, (Hull, east Riding, North Lincolnshire & North East Lincolnshire) and some homeworking.
The postholder will work in collaboration with HOP partner organisations to support, create, evaluate and deliver activities and events for a secondary and post-16 audience based upon the HOP core outreach programme including face-to-face IAG and attainment raising sessions.
Funding has, since January 2017 been awarded to HOP by the Office for Students (OfS) to deliver the Uni Connect Programme. Initially funded until August 2027, the OfS are currently undertaking a review to secure a longer-term funding model from 2027 onwards.
A graduate internship is a time-limited, structured work experience which also includes an element of training. It provides work experience and skills development that can enhance employability and career prospects, helping to transition into the world of work and prepare for future employment.
At the HOP, we strongly believe that higher education pathways should be an option for anyone who aspires to go to either university or undertake a higher technical pathway e.g. apprenticeship, and we want to ensure that all students have the knowledge and confidence to progress onto higher education pathways regardless of their socio-economic background, disabilities, ethnicity or gender.
A key strategy in engaging with young people from our region’s schools and colleges is providing relatable role models and real-life examples that students from their own diverse backgrounds can progress and succeed in higher education and beyond.
