Job summary

RGB Recruitment is partnering with a leading Building Services consultancy in Nottingham to recruit a Graduate / Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer. You will work with experienced designers and Revit Technicians across RIBA stages 0–5, developing electrical designs from feasibility to detailed coordination.

The role offers structured training, the chance to develop Amtech, Relux, Revit and AutoCAD skills, and a clear path for career progression.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Apprenticeship-trained Electrician with City & Guilds is acceptable.
  • Interest in Building Services Design and developing design skills.
  • Experience with electrical design software is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Design, size and select electrical building services systems.
  • Work on LV distribution, lighting, small power, fire and security systems.
  • Produce load calculations and support utility connections.
  • Develop designs using industry-standard software.
  • Produce 2D drawings, 3D models, specifications and reports.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines.
  • Attend client and design team meetings.
  • Support sustainable technologies within electrical designs.

Graduate / Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Nottingham


Salary: 25,000 – 35,000 dependent on experience


Job Type: Permanent, Full Time


Hours: 40 hours per week


The Company

A leading privately owned Building Services Consultancy is looking to appoint a Graduate / Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join its Nottingham office.


The business delivers electrical and mechanical building services solutions across a diverse range of projects and sectors, working from early feasibility through to detailed and fully coordinated designs for installation. You'll join an experienced and supportive team with a strong focus on technical development, training and long–term career progression.


The Role

As a Graduate / Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer, you will work alongside experienced electrical designers, mechanical engineers and Revit Technicians within a multidisciplinary environment.


You’ll be involved across RIBA Stages 0–5, developing electrical designs from feasibility through to detailed and coordinated designs for installation.


The role will include:



  • Designing, sizing and selecting electrical building services systems

  • Working on LV distribution, lighting, small power, fire and security systems

  • Producing load calculations and supporting utility connection applications

  • Developing electrical designs using industry–standard calculation and design software

  • Producing 2D drawings, 3D models, specifications and technical reports

  • Supporting the implementation of sustainable technologies within electrical designs

  • Coordinating electrical designs with mechanical and other disciplines

  • Working within a multidisciplinary team alongside Design Engineers and Revit Technicians

  • Attending client, design team and project meetings

  • Undertaking feasibility studies and site surveys

  • Working to relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry design guidance

  • Developing knowledge of Amtech, Relux, Revit and AutoCAD through structured training and hands–on experience


Requirements

The successful Graduate / Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer will ideally have:



  • A Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent qualification

  • Alternatively, an apprenticeship–trained Electrician with relevant City & Guilds qualifications

  • An interest in developing a career within Building Services Design

  • Some previous experience in electrical building services design would be beneficial for an Intermediate–level candidate

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

  • An interest in electrical design and calculation software

  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Ability to manage tasks independently when required

  • Flexible, reliable and proactive approach to work


Previous experience with Amtech, Relux, Revit or AutoCAD would be beneficial, but training will be provided.
