Job Description

The Ultra PCS Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.

Ultra PCS is looking to develop a Graduate Electronics Engineer to join our In-Service Engineering Team. The In-Service Engineering Team is responsible for supporting aerospace products, providing technical support of high integrity mission-critical products, including Data, Power & Energy Control, Data, Power & Energy Transfer, Stores Ejection and Cryogenic Cooling products, Generic Vehicle Architecture, and High/Low Power Distribution & Control systems. This includes electronic control systems, lighting, control and instrumentation solutions for military and civil aerospace applications. They will also provide support for equipment for land vehicles, improving their reliability and performance, whilst reducing the burden on the operators and maintainers.

The Graduate Electronics Engineer will work on Safety Critical Electronics, Data, Power & Energy Control, Data, Power & Energy Transfer, Stores Ejection and Cryogenic Cooling products, Generic Vehicle Architecture, and High / Low Power Distribution & Control systems.

Skills and Development

The Graduate Systems Engineer will gain knowledge, skills, and behaviours to perform; PCB design techniques and construction, board manufacturing methodologies, undertake debug and diagnostic testing, and understand component performance and device selection. They will gain an awareness of other disciplines (Software, Mechanical, and Systems) with a view to cooperatively managing obsolescence in a design, where necessary. They will be a team player and be able to integrate into a team working environment. They will learn best practices in circuit design to ensure the correct component selection for obsolescence, cost, safety and reliability. They will gain knowledge of product development and the product lifecycle, understand risks and opportunities, and take ownership of mitigation plans and actions. They will also develop skills to deal with customers and suppliers to achieve common goals.

You will gain a good understanding of product development practices in aerospace and safety critical sectors in accordance with ISO9001 and AS9100, a basic understanding of Hardware design and DO-254, a basic understanding of software design and DO-178, good knowledge of EMC, knowledge of schematic capture and circuit simulation, and knowledge of manufacturing and testing processes and procedures for products used in Aerospace, and Land and Ground Test Equipment.
