Job summary

Geobear invites applications for a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer in Hatfield, England. This entry-level role offers hands-on experience in site investigations, ground improvement technology, and solving geotechnical problems under supervision.

You will work with senior engineers on feasibility schemes, learn SLOPE/PLAXIS, and develop design and reporting skills while contributing to sustainable geotechnical solutions.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc in Civil Engineering or Geology required.
• MEng/MSc in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• Experience with geotechnical CAD tools (SLOPE, PLAXIS) preferred.
• Strong English communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

Position: Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Role Overview

This is essentially an entry level position and so it is expected that candidates will have up to 2-years relevant experience within engineering or environmental consultancy and/or ground engineering contractors including those Companies which specialise in site investigation. Experience of logging soil to BS5930 and knowledge of different site investigation techniques would be desirable, however we will also consider new graduates.

You’ll be passionate about solving geotechnical problems associated with poor ground conditions with the highest technical standard. You’ll operate with high integrity, be resilient, and take ownership of your objectives. This person should be highly organised, dynamic and flexible in their approach and should be of a strong character and have the ability to challenge performance and be challenged.

We’re looking for a hands-on individual who is used to working in a fast paced changing environment. Someone who can work under pressure, solve problems and be a good team player. Full training will be provided in Geobear ground improvement technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Visiting sites in person and online
• Assessing damage to buildings
• Providing technical support to Area Managers
• Developing feasibility schemes
• Designing a suitable repair scheme for buildings which have suffered from subsidence
• Checking internal designs in accordance with in-house design guidelines
• Checking the quality of quotations in lines with in-house quoting guidelines
• Signing off designs after training passed
• Creating case studies from completed projects

Supporting the Technical DIrector in business development KPIs

• Reduced number of aborted jobs and complaints relating to design
• Reduced numbers of rejected quotes (training)
• Engineering ticket lead time

Qualifications & Key Requirements

• BEng / BSc in Civil Engineering/Geology or similar discipline
• MEng / MSc (Eng) in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics preferable
• Experience in geotechnical and CAD design software is preferable, such as SLOPE, PLAXIS etc
• Good written and verbal English communication skills
• Proficient with LLMs and keen to use AI where possible to make work more effective
• Sponsorship for Professional Registration within an appropriate institution will be provided
