Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in London. This individual will serve a key function in providing the planning and execution of field investigations, monitoring foundation and earthwork construction, identifying and implementing field and lab work solutions, and preparing logs and reports. In this role, you will have the opportunity to analyze geotechnical engineering problems and assist in preparation of geotechnical engineering reports on large-scale and high-profile projects.

Job Responsibilities

1. Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data;
2. Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities; monitor conformance with the construction documents;
3. Identify and implement solutions to both routine and complex field and/or laboratory problems;
4. Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs;
5. Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches;
6. Prepare, check, and review a wide range of technical reports including Desk Studies, Interpretative reports, specifications, and Design reports;
7. Provide close support to our Technical Directors and Associates in project delivery, work winning and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction;
8. Engage actively in team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts;
9. Prepare fee bids and proposals for internal and external clients;
10. Accurately document and communicate with supervisor on any problems encountered on project sites; and
11. Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering required; Master’s degree with Geotechnical specialty or desire to pursue is preferred;
2. 0-2 years of work-related experience;
3. A strong working knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices;
4. A wide range of experience, knowledge, and skills in geotechnical engineering and/or engineering geology;
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
6. Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities;
7. Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field;
8. Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment; and
9. Possess reliable transportation for client meetings and job site visits across the UK and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
