Job summary

Sweco UK Ltd is recruiting for a Graduate Fire Engineer to join our Building Standards Division, delivering fire safety advice across the UK construction sector. You will work on diverse projects from concept to construction, supported by a senior team.

The two-year Graduate Scheme combines virtual and face-to-face masterclasses, mentoring, and opportunities for professional accreditation, with a permanent position and industry-standard salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Degree in fire engineering or related field.
• <12 months of relevant work experience or less (excluding placements).
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
• Self-motivated, proactive and solution-oriented.
• Eligible to work in the UK now and in the future.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic fire safety advice across the UK construction sector (commercial, residential, industrial, infrastructure).

What does the role involve?

Working on a diverse range of projects you will provide strategic fire safety advice across the UK for the whole construction sector including commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure. This role presents a real depth and breadth of some of our most exciting project schemes and the opportunity to work in a team of highly skilled and talented engineers.

Our fire engineering project roles continue throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept design through to construction. Collaborating with clients and external stakeholders is a key part of the role through delivering presentations and you will also be involved in contributing to design team meetings to ensure designs follow the fire strategies that have been agreed.

As a Graduate Fire Engineer, day to day activities include the following with support from a senior member of the Fire Engineering Team:

• Attending design team meetings internally and externally.
• Reviewing and marking up design proposals.
• Liaising with design team members i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health Engineers as well as Architects and clients.
• Critical thinking in supporting the design team to overcome the Fire Safety challenges.
• Producing technical reports to support the design through approval process.
• Undertaking detailed Fire Engineering analysis including using computer modelling tools i.e. CFD and Evacuation.
• Liaising with the Approving Authorities.
