Role Overview

Ealing Council offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated graduate to gain experience and work towards full qualification and registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner under the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) pathway.

Responsibilities:
  • Work towards your professional qualification and registration with the CIEH
  • Develop practical knowledge, skills, and competencies to become a fully qualified Environmental Health Practitioner
  • Support delivery of the Council’s statutory and non-statutory environmental health functions, policies, and strategic objectives
  • Promote regulatory compliance among landlords, food businesses, and other duty holders through education, advice, interventions, and enforcement
  • Respond to and investigate complaints across various Environmental Health matters
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies such as FSA, HSE, DEFRA, EA, MHCLG, police, and fire services
Location & Accessibility

Ealing has excellent transport links, with Ealing Broadway station just a ten-minute walk. Free parking is available if you use your vehicle for work.

Additional Role Details

This role involves a project to support food businesses in Southall to improve their Food Hygiene Rating. You will:

  • Conduct investigations, inspections, enforcement, and advisory services in food safety and health & safety
  • Within six months, carry out a food advisory and support service to improve Food Hygiene Ratings in Southall

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must hold, or be about to obtain, a CIEH accredited qualification in Environmental Health at Level 6 (e.g., BSc, MSc, or Level 6 Apprenticeship). You should:

  • Have a passion for Environmental Health
  • Be highly motivated and a team player
  • Show potential to develop into a high-calibre Environmental Health Officer
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be self-disciplined and able to work independently
  • Learn quickly and apply new skills

This position is subject to Ealing Council’s vetting process. You must have the right to work in the UK; evidence will be requested at interview.

The position is fixed-term for two years. External applicants receive a fixed-term contract, and Ealing Council employees may apply for a secondment, with approval from their line manager.
