Job Title: Graduate Environmental Advisor

Location: Falmer (Hybrid Working)

Salary: from £35k

Are you a recent graduate with a passion for the environment and a desire to make a real impact? Join Southern Water as a Graduate Environmental Advisor and play a vital role in helping our projects not only meet but exceed environmental standards.

In return, you’ll benefit from mentorship and guidance from experienced environmental professionals, while gaining hands-on experience across a range of high-impact projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your technical expertise, expand your professional network, and build a strong foundation for your career through structured ongoing development. If you’re ready to start your environmental career with purpose, this is your chance to help shape a more sustainable future with Southern Water.

Job Overview

Working as part of the Enabling Team within Engineering Technical Services (ETS), you’ll support the delivery of clean water and wastewater projects from design through to construction. You'll help manage environmental risk, conduct field surveys, and identify opportunities to enhance both the natural and built environment.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Supporting environmental risk management across a wide range of engineering and infrastructure projects
  • Carrying out environmental surveys, assessments, and accurate reporting
  • Contributing to practical solutions to manage environmental risk and ensure compliance
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Ecologists, and Environmental Advisors
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and regulator relationships
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of mitigation strategies
  • Travelling to sites across the region – flexibility is key
  • Getting stuck into a mix of field and office-based work, sometimes outside of standard hours

About You

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline, along with strong written and analytical skills and a keen eye for detail. We’re looking for someone who is curious, driven, and eager to learn – this is a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional development. You’ll thrive in a team environment, be proactive and hands-on in your approach, and be flexible when it comes to regional travel and varied working hours.

Package

This role will be full time Monday to Friday 37 hours a week.

Southern Water operate a hybrid approach to working between our offices and home.

We are offering a salary from £35k per annum depending on skills and experience as well as other benefits including:

  • Company and performance-related bonus
  • Generous pension up to 11% company contribution
  • 25 days annual leave
  • Life assurance equal to 4x salary
  • Salary sacrifice electric car scheme (after 6 months service)
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Full funded eye tests
  • Two paid volunteering days a year
  • Occupational health service
  • Discounts with over 800 popular retailers
  • Digital GP service
  • Study support may be available for job-related qualifications
  • Competitive maternity leave and flexible return to work options
  • Cycle to work scheme

Does this opportunity excite you but you’re not 100% sure if you meet all the requirements for the role? Or are you concerned that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t possible given your personal circumstances? Whilst we can’t accommodate every flexible working request, we’ll try to find a practical solution. So why not engage with us and find out more about this role?

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, because delivering water for life is our core purpose. To achieve this, we need 24/7 support in place to resolve incidents quickly and efficiently. All our employees understand the importance of out-of-hours incident support – because when problems appear, fixing them is our top priority. That’s why our people join together and support when and however needed to make sure our customers get the service they deserve. Joining the Southern Water family means you’ll become part of our incident support team. During your interview, your manager will speak to you about any incident support rotas that apply to your position.
