The Role – Graduate English Teaching Assistant

As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will support the English department by:

  • Helping students with GCSE preparation, coursework, and overall literacy improvement.
  • Encouraging active participation in discussions on English literature and language.
  • Supporting students in overcoming barriers to learning, particularly in writing and comprehension.
  • Preparing learning resources and helping maintain a well-organised classroom environment.
  • Collaborating with teaching, SEN, and pastoral staff to support every learner’s success.

What We’re Looking For – Graduate English Teaching Assistant

  • Educated to degree level (2:1 or above) in English, English Literature, or a related subject.
  • Academically strong, with excellent A-Level and GCSE English results.
  • Genuinely passionate about English education and working with young people.
  • Confident communicators with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and reflective when supporting students of mixed abilities.
  • Interested in pursuing a long-term career in education—whether through teaching, academic support, or pastoral care.
  • Experience working with young people (e.g. mentoring, tutoring, or volunteering) is desirable but not essential.
