BEAR is looking for Graduate Engineers who are eager to start their engineering careers and are interested in joining our North West and South East units.

BEAR Scotland manages, maintains, and improves 1962 km of Scottish trunk roads, including over 2000 bridges and structures, through some of the most scenic yet challenging parts of the country. This involves delivering million-pound investments annually on road maintenance and improvements.

The Graduate Engineer, reporting to the Nominated Delegate Engineer, will assist with daily activities related to the delivery of assigned work streams across various teams within the company. The role involves executing assigned tasks to meet technical standards, adhere to schedules and budgets, and may require moving between teams based on workload and training needs.

Role includes:

  • Complying with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures as part of the company’s Integrated Management Systems.
  • Delivering assigned projects on time and within budget.
  • Assisting with effective monitoring and control of costs.
  • Helping establish good relationships with clients, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Assisting with correspondence.
  • Planning daily workloads.
  • Supporting the Designer’s role in accordance with CDM Regulations and drafting appropriate risk assessments.
  • Assisting with the production of Health & Safety Information packs.
  • Supporting the management and supervision of subcontractors.
  • Participating in winter maintenance activities as required.
  • Following the Graduate Training programme guidelines.
  • Supporting the Delegated Engineer and team members as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Relevant degree-level qualification or current experience in a related discipline.
  • Full working knowledge of relevant engineering principles.
  • Working towards further qualification or chartered status.
  • Proficiency in analysis, design, and office software.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Valid UK driving license.
