Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Glasgow is seeking a Graduate Engineering Geologist to join a growing consultancy. You will gain hands-on experience in ground investigation, engineering geology and geotechnical projects, working with experienced engineers and geologists.

The role covers supervising site works, logging soils and rocks, mapping, site assessments, and preparing reports. A BSc/MSc in Geology or Engineering Geology is preferred, plus a desire to develop towards chartership and a full UK

• Genuine interest in developing a career within engineering geology and geotechnics.
• Willingness to work on site and in varied environments across Scotland and the UK.
• Full UK driving licence or working towards one.

Responsibilities

• Support and supervise ground investigations and site works.
• Log soil and rock in accordance with standards.
• Assist with geological mapping and site assessments.
• Undertake site inspections and ground condition assessments.
• Collect and interpret geological and geotechnical data.
• Assist with ground investigation planning and specification.
• Prepare factual and interpretative technical reports.
• Support experienced engineers and geologists with geotechnical assessments.
• Review historical maps and existing site data.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and project stakeholders.
• Work both in office and on site across diverse projects.

Are you a recent Geology or Engineering Geology graduate looking to start your career within a supportive and growing consultancy?

We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Engineering Geologist to join an established team in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate to gain hand-on experience across ground investigation, engineering geology and geotechnical projects, working alongside experienced engineers and geologists.

The Role

As a Graduate Engineering Geologist, you will gain exposure to a varied range of projects across Scotland and the wider UK. Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting and supervising ground investigations and site works
• Soil and rock logging in accordance with relevant standards
• Assisting with geological mapping and site assessments
• Undertaking site inspections and ground condition assessments
• Collecting and interpreting geological and geotechnical data
• Assisting with ground investigation planning and specification
• Preparing factual and interpretative technical reports
• Supporting experienced engineers and geologists with geotechnical assessments
• Reviewing historical maps, geological information and existing site data
• Liaising with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders
• Working both in the office and on site across a variety of projects

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• A BSc or MSc in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related subject
• A genuine interest in developing a career within engineering geology and geotechnics
• An understanding of geological principles and ground conditions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A willingness to work both independently and as part of a wider team
• A practical, hand-on approach and willingness to undertake site-based work
• A full UK driving licence, or be working towards obtaining one

Previous experience within ground investigation, site work, geological logging or consultancy would be advantageous, but graduates without commercial experience are encouraged to apply.
