Job summary

BUUK Infrastructure in Cardiff is seeking a Graduate Engineer (Water) to gain broad-based experience while contributing to day-to-day activities. Graduates may be streamed to construction, electricity, water, fibre, or heat networks on a three-year scheme and work towards IEng and CEng status.

The role involves site visits, cross-department rotations, and developing understanding of wider business functions, with a focus on delivering excellent service to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level in an appropriate Engineering based discipline and have achieved (or be working towards) a minimum 2:1 grade.

Responsibilities

• Undertake tasks and projects that will give practical experience within the utilities industry.
• Rotate throughout different departments to explore other roles to gain a rounded experience.
• Maintain a record of experience and learning while working towards professional engineering status.
• Visit and work within other BUUK offices throughout the UK, undertaking site visits when required.
• Develop an understanding of wider business functions and how they operate together.
• Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Any other duties as required by the manager.

We are looking for a Graduate Engineer (Water) who would like to help us reach our mission to "earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service".

(The graduate scheme follows a three-stage interview process. Candidates who are successful at the telephone interview stage will be invited to attend an Assessment Centre in Milton Keynes on Tuesday 8th December 2026. Please note that this is currently the only Assessment Centre scheduled).

Purpose of this role

Qualifications

Experience/Knowledge

Abilities/Skills

• Demonstrate strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.


• Excellent listening skills, the ability to build rapport.

Desirable

• CSCS or equivalent.


• Experience within the utilities industry.


• Awareness of Health and Safety Procedures.


• Ability to use Microsoft Office programmes or equivalent.

Conditions of Employment

• You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to handling and processing sensitive customer data.


• You will hold a driving licence or be in the process of obtaining one.
