Qualifications

Job description

Due to continued business success, we have a new opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join our Ballistics team in Fivemiletown, Co.Tyrone. Working from our purpose- built manufacturing and test facitlity, the engineer will support new armour design, testing, and manufacturability of all Personal Protective solutions in our range.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Ballistics Engineer and Head of Ballistics on the development of new armours to meet customer requirements, and create first-draft product and component designs using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Collaborate with designers to refine technical aspects of new product concepts.
  • Assess and evaluate design trends in the market and with competitors.
  • Analyze test data, identify patterns, and support decision-making processes related to product development and improvements.
  • Conduct routine and new product batch testing, including setting up and executing controlled tests, recording data accurately, and reporting results in line with relevant standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed product specifications and test documentation and communicate findings from tests and feedback loops effectively.
  • Carry out product cost analysis and review options ahead of new product certifications
  • Liaise with suppliers and the internal technical teams to ensure smooth transition from concept to prototype and production.
  • Assist in identifying areas for product improvement, cost efficiency, and manufacturing optimisation
  • Review & agree manufacturing techniques in new armour developments with Head of Ballistics and Production Manager prior to certifying armour solution
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by management.
  • Maximize efficiency by supporting Cooneen Lean continuous improvement activities

Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum qualification of Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of ballistics principles and testing methods (training will be provided).
  • Understanding of design principles, particularly in new product development or concept design.
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g. formulas, pivot tables, data charts).
  • Previous experience working in a team environment with proven ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator for technical drawing and design.
  • Previous internship, placement or project experience in product testing or ballistic systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO or Ballistics standard documentation.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools, or CAD software
