Sir Robert McAlpine invites graduates to join the 2027 Graduate Engineer programme, working on live projects across the UK and progressing toward chartered status. You’ll rotate across projects, sectors, and specialisms while developing technical and collaborative skills from day one.

Starting September 2027, you’ll gain structured training, industry qualifications, and support to balance professional growth with the realities of large-scale construction. Travel between sites is expected.

At Sir Robert McAlpine, our graduates don't sit on the sidelines. From day one you'll be part of a live project team, doing real work on some of the UK's most significant buildings and infrastructure, and you'll be working towards becoming a chartered professional.

How we'll develop you

• You’ll join one of our core job families and rotate across projects, sectors, and specialisms to build real breadth
• A clear route to chartership with ICE or RICS. You get 4 dedicated days a year for professional development.
• Your own cohort of fellow graduates to learn alongside and support each other.
• A structured two-year journey:
  • Emerging Talent conferences
  • a three-day team development course in the Lake District
  • a three-day Project Simulation that takes you through a project from tender to post-contract
  • People Agility training in influencing, negotiation and problem-solving
• Industry qualifications and skills: SMSTS, SEATS, Presenting with Excellence, Successful Package Management, plus digital skills (Excel, AI, digital construction), sustainability and role-specific technical training
