Job description

Graduate Engineer – Structures Team, Chelmsford

Ringway Jacobs is seeking a motivated and talented Graduate Engineer to join our Chelmsford structures team. With strong analytical skills and, ideally, some design office experience, you’ll help deliver highway structure refurbishment and replacement schemes while conducting periodic inspections.

Working closely with senior engineers and teammates, you’ll ensure projects meet deadlines and budgets. Excellent communication skills are key, as you’ll prepare reports, draft contracts, and deliver progress updates.

The Role

  1. Preparation of design, plan, programme highway structures works and services.
  2. For own health, safety and welfare.
  3. Support Health and Safety, Environmental Management System, Quality Management System and Construction Design Management in a positive and constructive manner, with the aim of minimising work related injuries by implementing Essex Highways policies and procedures.
  4. Understands the overall functions, aims and directions of Essex Highways, and how the structures service fits into those objectives.
  5. To carry out any other reasonable duties that may be directed or implied from time to time commensurate to the post and/or organisational requirements.

Essential Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with Eurocodes and ideally with modern standards, DMRB, MCHW.
  2. Basic knowledge and application of Health and Safety legislation including Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
  3. Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (including report writing).
  4. Ability to prioritise own work to support business priorities. Manages own performance and seeks feedback to improve where identified.
  5. Hold a valid driving licence and be competent at and able to drive in the UK.
