Job summary

Cumming Group is seeking a Graduate Cost Manager to begin providing cost consultancy and project support across various stages and sectors. You will work on estimates, procurement advice, and post-contract administration, either independently or leading a team depending on project size.

The role involves supporting budget estimates, cost plans, risk management, and contract documentation while aligning with QA and H&S procedures. Bournemouth-based opportunity.

Qualifications

  • Integrity is required for client and team interactions.
  • Develop knowledge of construction industry technical matters.
  • Basic understanding of industry standard contracts (JCT/NEC).
  • Foundational pre/post-contract cost management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Good interpersonal skills with clients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day delivery support on projects with supervision.
  • Support knowledge capture, sharing and innovation.
  • Assist preparation of budget estimates, cost plans and client reports.
  • Support risk and value management.
  • Assist contract administration including valuations, forecasts and cost reports.
  • Prepare bills of quantities or schedules of rates.
  • Deliver outputs accurately and on time to a high standard.
  • Contribute to team performance and ensure work meets QA and H&S policies.
  • Ensure compliance with client governance procedures.

Job description

At Cumming Group, you will work on some of the world’s most exciting construction projects across a variety of sectors, in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your success is measured by the impact you make. As a Graduate Cost Manager, you will begin to provide cost consultancy and project support for projects across various stages and sectors, from concept design to construction completion. You will be responsible for delivering estimates, procurement advice, and post-contract administration, working independently or managing a team, depending on project size and scope. You will partner with a diverse set of clients and internal teams to deliver exceptional value, acting as a trusted advisor and helping to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Provide support for day-to-day delivery on projects/programmes of work and demonstrate the ability to take on tasks under supervision.
  • Support knowledge capture, sharing and innovation.
  • Support preparation of budget estimates, cost plans and client reports.
  • Support risk and value management.
  • Support contract administration including preparation of valuations, forecasts, cost reports and attendance at project meetings.
  • Preparation of bills of quantities, schedules of rates, or other methods of work evaluation.
  • Deliver all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner to a high standard of quality.
  • Support the delivery of work through proactive involvement where appropriate and through performance management of personnel to ensure work is completed in a timely manner to a high-quality standard.
  • Undertake service delivery is in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Practice, particularly Health and Safety and Quality Assurance.
  • Provide services in compliance with the client's corporate governance procedures where applicable.
  • Achieve all objectives as required by the annual performance review process.
  • Work to deadlines set by the Project Team Leader.
  • Filing of project correspondence in accordance with requirements.
  • Support evaluation of tenders, contractor selection and contract documentation.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of integrity.
  • Developing knowledge of construction industry technical matters.
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard forms of contract, typically JCT and NEC.
  • Limited pre and post contract technical cost management skills.
  • Limited core technical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills for the role including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Good interpersonal skills with both client and staff.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Industry specific: HND/HNC/OND/ONC working towards a degree in construction, cost management, engineering, quantity surveying or other RICS accredited degree.
  • Associate member of RICS/other equivalent qualification of experience.
  • A basic understanding of leadership techniques.
  • 1+ years’ experience.
