A leading corporate banking and capital markets organisation is seeking a Commodity Trader Graduate to join their team in London.

Main Purpose of the role:

Commerzbank Corporates clients (CC) is the integrated Corporate and Investment Banking division of Commerzbank AG.

CC provides corporate and institutional clients with a broad range of commercial and investment banking products. It is active in Europe’s most important markets with main offices in Frankfurt and London.

The business incorporates capital markets activities in commodities, interest rates, and foreign exchange with a strong focus on derivatives. It provides clients with capital and debt raising solutions and offers access to a broad range of investment and risk management products across all major asset classes.

The Commodity trading team within Financial Markets (FM) is a product specialist team responsible for market making and risk managing the bank’s entire commodity product suite, including precious metals, base metals, oil & gas, power, carbon, and agricultural products.

Our clients are corporates managing their commodity price risk; and their banks, which act as counterparties when Commerzbank has no direct relationship with the end-client.

We provide tailor-made commodity hedging solutions globally. We design complex trading strategies to maximize client value and optimize the bank’s P&L.

Key Activities and Competencies:

The role as a Graduate – Commodity Trader involves:

• Collaborating with senior traders to produce risk management and P&L reports.
• Gaining a solid understanding of all commodities derivatives products.
• Pricing commodity payoffs based on sales requests.
• Using VBA or similar languages to automate daily trading tasks.
• Monitoring market, political, and economic trends; developing understanding and conveying insights to sales teams.
• Structuring, pricing, trading, and managing commodity positions to develop the bank’s client franchise in a risk-controlled, capital-efficient, and cost-effective manner.
• Market making, risk management, and keeping senior staff informed of current risk positions, ensuring compliance with market rules, and maintaining accurate mark-to-market of the trading book.
• Monitoring market levels, competitor pricing, reconciling risk and P&L figures, and ensuring data accuracy.
• Developing technical, market, product, and technological expertise aligned with strategic business goals; coordinating projects and monitoring performance against objectives.
• Trading instruments such as futures/forwards, swaps, and options.

Key Requirements:

• Graduated in the last 12 months or graduating in 2025.
• Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Econometrics, or similar quantitative discipline.
• Minimum 2.1 UK bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Commercial mindset and high communication skills.
• Entrepreneurial attitude to develop business.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Business experience from a financial services internship.
