Job summary

Arup in Birmingham invites graduates to join the Rail Civils team, working on rail infrastructure projects and delivering designs, calculations and studies. You’ll learn from experienced engineers and contribute to real client work while developing your career in a supportive environment.

Based in our Birmingham office, you’ll apply CAD/BIM and railway knowledge to deliver robust, compliant solutions within budgets and timelines, with opportunities to grow through mentorship and varied projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural or Railway Engineering.
  • Ability to apply engineering judgement and work with appropriate support.
  • Familiarity with CAD/BIM and AI concepts is beneficial.

The Opportunity

Based in our Birmingham office, the Rail Civils team is a collaborative and vibrant group working on a wide range of rail infrastructure projects. Our work includes preparing engineering layouts, developing design options, carrying out calculations and analysis, contributing to technical studies and reports, and collaborating with colleagues across specialist disciplines. Graduates joining the team will have the opportunity to contribute to real projects, learn from experienced engineers and develop the foundations for a rewarding career in rail civils.

You would:

  • Collaborate proactively with colleagues across disciplines to deliver coordinated solutions;
  • Contribute to the preparation of high-quality design calculations and drawings, with support appropriate to your experience;
  • Apply relevant design standards and quality processes to produce robust, reliable work;
  • Organise and deliver your work within agreed budgets and timescales, communicating early where priorities or requirements change;
  • Communicate technical information clearly and inclusively, both verbally and in writing, for a range of audiences.
Is this role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

  • A bachelor's degree in relevant academic discipline, such as Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or Railway Engineering
  • Ability to apply engineering judgement to project work; ability to work independently with appropriate support; commitment to quality of outputs; willingness to learn; ability to work effectively within a team
  • CAD/BIM; use of AI; an appreciation of railway systems/assets

  • Full working rights in the country of application
  • No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
