Join Tetra Tech’s two-year Graduate Scheme and begin your career with hands‑on experience, expert mentorship and a tailored development plan. You’ll work on a variety of real‑world projects, develop technical and professional skills, and be encouraged to share your ideas and shape your future.

Graduate Civil Engineer

We are seeking talented graduates to join our growing Renewables Infrastructure team in Edinburgh and Glasgow. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to the design and delivery of renewables infrastructure projects that contribute to and support the strategic growth within the various markets we operate, including but not limited to renewables infrastructure, transmission, transportation and flood protection across Scotland and supporting our multi‑disciplinary Northern Ireland business within Tetra Tech.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will support the delivery of civil engineering designs across a range of infrastructure projects, working alongside experienced engineers and other technical specialists. You will contribute to projects through concept, tender, detailed design and construction stages, developing your technical knowledge and practical experience along the way.

Your Impact in this position

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of infrastructure projects that contribute to economic growth and sustainable development. In the short term, your focus will be on building your technical knowledge, producing high‑quality work and learning from experienced colleagues across the business. You will be encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas and take increasing ownership of your work as your skills and confidence develop. Over time, you will take on greater responsibility for design activities, project delivery and collaboration with clients and multi‑disciplinary teams. You will be supported in your professional development, helping you build the experience and competencies needed to progress your career within civil engineering.

What To Expect:
  • Mentorship & Support: Learn from experienced professionals and receive guidance from a dedicated technical mentor in your chosen discipline.
  • Structured Learning: Benefit from a blend of formal training, project‑based learning, and self‑directed study.
  • Personal Development: Build your consultancy skills through a mix of technical and interpersonal training, with regular feedback and reviews
  • Community: Start with a central induction alongside your graduate peers and become part of a collaborative, supportive network.
Programme Highlights:
  • Central induction and ongoing support from your line manager and mentor.
  • In‑depth technical training in your core discipline, plus exposure to 15 technical and 8 interpersonal topics.
  • Quarterly development reviews to track your progress.
  • Opportunities to shadow senior colleagues and contribute to diverse projects.
Your Pathway:

You’ll be assigned a location, cost centre, line manager, and a ‘home’ technical discipline based on your qualifications and business needs. If you wish to explore a different discipline at the end of the programme, we’ll consider this based on your interests and business requirements.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Partnership

As part of the scheme, you’ll have access to the CMI Foundation Chartered Manager pathway through flexible, online Bite Size programs. Choose from a range of topics- including Managing Change, Leading in a Digital Age, Conflict Resolution, Project Management, and Data-Driven Decision Making - to build your leadership and management skills.

CMI Bite Size Benefits:
  • Short, focused modules you can complete at your own pace
  • Practical insights to strengthen your management capabilities
  • Internationally recognised certification upon completion
  • Option to progress to a Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management

Each program consists of three concise modules (totalling 85-135 minutes), scheduled in your second year. Complete activity sheets to demonstrate your learning and earn your Foundation Chartered Manager certification.

Qualifications

Must have achieved, or be on track to achieve, a relevant degree in either Civil or Structural Engineering

Working Environment

Initially, you will be based full‑time in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office during your probation period to support your onboarding, development and mentoring. Following successful completion of your probation, the role will move to a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation of three days per week in the office to support ongoing collaboration and team coordination.

Application and Selection Process

Following initial screening, shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete online psychometric testing designed to evaluate key competencies and problem‑solving skills relevant to consultancy work. Those who progress beyond this stage will invite to attend an in‑person Graduate Day.
