Arup in Birmingham is seeking a Graduate Bridge and Civil Structures Engineer to start your career designing bridges, tunnels and heavy civils. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary team, applying digital tools and analytical thinking to deliver innovative, resilient infrastructure.

The Opportunity

Our Bridge and Civils Structures team in Birmingham combines deep technical expertise with advanced digital, data and AI‑enabled approaches to design, assess and renew bridges, tunnels and civil structures that connect communities and support long‑term resilience. Projects range from long‑span bridges and complex underground infrastructure to major road and rail upgrades that transform how people move and live.

We are a large and diverse group of engineers and technicians working across bridges, civil structures and tunnels within multidisciplinary project teams. Operating in a fully digital environment, we support projects at all stages of the lifecycle — from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, delivery and the management of existing assets.

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

Qualifications and Skills

A Master's level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering with;

  • Strong numerical skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An analytical thought process and strive for technical excellence
  • Enthusiasm for a career in Bridges and civils structures, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of our sector and work
  • Demonstrable understanding of general bridge and structural behaviour and an ability to use this understanding to develop practical solutions to meet Client needs
  • Drive for technical excellence and an analytical thought process
  • Creativity and a desire to think beyond the norm
  • Aptitude to work on your own initiative, be proactive and take responsibility
To Be Considered For a Graduate Opportunity, Your Application Must Include a Copy Of Your Academic Transcript And Meet The Following Criteria
  • Full working rights in the country of application
  • No more than 12 months of full‑time experience in a comparable role
  • Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
