Job description

A Future with Purpose

At Arup, we’re dedicated to sustainable development and doing socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity—using technology, imagination, and rigor to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

A career in our UK Bridge and Civil Structures teams offers an exciting and rewarding environment for work and development. We are a diverse company collaborating on a wide range of projects of all scales across transport, renewable energy, and water sectors, throughout the UK and globally. We support our clients and solve their challenges as they transition to a net-zero economy and address climate change impacts, delivering sustainable design and asset life extension for civil engineering structures, bridges, and tunnels. We are a driving force behind many major infrastructure projects. Our projects transform and significantly improve daily life, from new build designs that complement their environments to strengthening existing assets for sustainable lifespan extension.

Our portfolio includes exciting UK and international projects in transport, energy, and water sectors. Our clients include government agencies, local authorities, contractors, and developers. We undertake all aspects of bridge design, assessment, construction planning, and structural health monitoring—from pedestrian bridges to long-span cable-supported bridges, such as the New Wear Footbridge, Gull Wing Bridge, Forth Bridge, Transpennine Rail Upgrade, and High Speed 2. We also design and plan tunnels, underground pumping stations, offshore wind platforms, and more. A career in Arup's Bridges and Civil Structures teams offers opportunities to influence and solve challenging problems in diverse environments.

As the industry rapidly transforms through digital technology, we aim to be a leading digital consultancy in the built environment. This involves being at the forefront of using technologies such as 3D solid modelling, automation tools, coding, databases, data analytics, and AI. We seek candidates with an aptitude and interest in developing skills in these areas alongside traditional engineering competencies.

From day one, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and guided towards professional accreditation. You will help us deliver effective and professional services to high-profile clients. While you will have significant responsibility from the start, we will support your growth and broaden your understanding over time.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for candidates with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an ICE or IStructE accredited course, with the following skills:

  • Strong numerical skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • An analytical mindset and a pursuit of technical excellence
  • Enthusiasm for a career in bridges and civil structures, with knowledge of our sector and work
  • Understanding of general bridge and structural behaviour, with the ability to develop practical solutions to meet client needs
  • Drive for technical excellence and analytical thinking
  • Creativity and a desire to think beyond conventional solutions
  • A proactive approach, initiative, and responsibility-taking ability
  • Interest and skills in digital areas such as coding for automation and problem-solving (advantageous)

We value curiosity, adaptability, and respect for diverse perspectives. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality, knowledge sharing, and idea exchange. If you are eager to contribute, learn, and deliver excellent client services, we want to hear from you.

Start date: September 2025.

What we offer you

At Arup, we care about your success and growth. We provide a competitive total reward package that recognizes your contributions. Our benefits support health and wellbeing, learning, and impact through your work.

As a member-owned company, we have the freedom and responsibility to set our direction and pursue meaningful work. Our profit-sharing scheme allows members to share in our collective success. We also offer private medical insurance, life assurance, accident insurance, income protection, and adaptable benefits tailored to your needs.

Different people, shared values

We foster an inclusive environment where everyone’s unique background and perspectives are valued. We encourage applications from all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, identity, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or family circumstances. By championing diversity, we build a resilient organization that positively impacts our people, culture, clients, and communities.
