Job description
Overview

We are excited to invite applications for a sport graduate assistant to help with the delivery of our outstanding Games and PE provision from January 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to gain early career experience in one of the UK's leading sporting schools, and within a warm and dynamic school community. The post is suited to candidates with the ability to extend, challenge and develop our most able performers, and who possess the ability to inspire and nurture a love for sport in every pupil in the school.

All successful candidates will be expected to make a significant contribution to both the delivery of PE and the coaching of sports teams. They should have significant expertise in at least one of our core sports (rugby, netball, hockey, rowing, football, cricket and tennis). An interest in athletic development and/or one or more of our non-core sports — such as badminton, basketball, golf, squash, swimming, table tennis and water polo — is also advantageous, as is the ability and willingness to take the lead on delivering a programme of training and fixtures for one of these sports. This is a full-time position, initially on a fixed-term basis for two terms, with a possibility of extension.

King's is one of the most successful schools in the world, with outstanding academic results, first-class pastoral care and a vibrant co-curriculum. The school is located in a desirable area and benefits from exceptional grounds and facilities.

To apply for this role, please visit our website via the apply button. Closing date: 9am on Monday 6th October 2025. Interviews: Friday 10th October 2025. Early applications are encouraged; interviews may be staged and we may choose to appoint at any time during the application process.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. King's is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service. King's College School is fully committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusivity in its recruitment of teaching and support staff.

Responsibilities
  • Make a significant contribution to the delivery of PE and the coaching of sports teams.
  • Demonstrate significant expertise in at least one core sport (rugby, netball, hockey, rowing, football, cricket and tennis) and lead on delivering a programme of training and fixtures for one of the non-core sports where applicable.
  • Engage with and support pupils to flourish and reach their sporting potential, across school days, weekends and holidays as appropriate.
  • Contribute to the school's cocurricular programme and to the development of athletic programming and fixtures.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a positive, inclusive sporting environment.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and safeguarding for all pupils.

  • A desire to enrich the sporting experience of pupils during the school day, at weekends and during school holidays.
  • Strong pastoral instincts and a commitment to excellent pastoral care and safeguarding for all pupils.
  • A desire to contribute to the school's thriving cocurricular programme.
  • An ability to work well with others and a personal commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Prior experience of working in a secondary school environment or with secondary age pupils (advantageous).
