Job description

As a Graduate/Assistant (Trades Background) Electrical Engineer in the Maintenance Team, you will develop expertise in engineering maintenance on site. Actively support the development of a reliability-centred maintenance culture in partnership with the operations team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and challenging environment. You will gain hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced professionals in the field.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  2. Assist the team in identifying changing engineering standards and legislation requiring site action/compliance.
  3. Lead and support smaller engineering maintenance projects across the smelter complex.
  4. Provide support and training to diagnose and fault-find equipment failures as required.
  5. Ensure all written isolation procedures are followed, involving multiple points of isolation to control hazardous energy.
  6. Identify the quickest and most cost-effective, long-term solutions to remedial activities.
  7. Promote a reliability-focused culture within the maintenance team and direct reports.
  8. Ensure all electrical equipment is maintained according to current statutory, regulatory, and company standards.
  9. Coordinate auditing systems to ensure engineering compliance on site.
  10. Lead site reliability projects using recognised lean principles.
  11. Assist in coaching the maintenance team to ensure competency and delivery standards.
  12. Manage external engineering contractors in line with health & safety, cost, time, standards, and expectations.
  13. Support the engineering team on new equipment installations, providing long-term maintenance input.
  14. Ensure all tasks comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  15. Work safely, avoid unnecessary risks, and refrain from improvisation that entails risk.
What we are looking for
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Time Served Electrical Trade Qualification.
  • Basic understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to write technical reports and documentation.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate in team environments and build relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage workload.
  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical engineering.
