We are seeking a dedicated Graduate Academic Mentor to join a nurturing secondary school in Stoke-on-Trent. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate eager to gain hands-on experience working with students who require additional academic and emotional support—particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs—while making a genuine difference every day.

Monday to Friday schedule – maintain a healthy work-life balance

Providing 1:1 and small group academic support to students across subjects
Supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs to stay engaged in learning
Helping pupils build study skills, organisation, and self-confidence
Assisting in classroom settings and delivering targeted interventions
Collaborating with teachers and SENCOs to tailor support plans
Using restorative and inclusive practices to maintain a positive learning environment
Encouraging student progress, both academically and personally
Acting as a trusted role model and mentor for students facing barriers to learning
A 2:1 degree or above – ideally in Education, Psychology, English, Maths, Science, or a related field
Previous experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
A calm, confident, and compassionate approach to mentoring
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and independently when required
A commitment to helping all students succeed, regardless of background
A genuine interest in pursuing a career in education, SEN, or youth support
