Job summary

NHS Lothian is seeking a motivated Health Care Support Worker to join the Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Team. In this role, you will provide essential rehabilitation support to patients post-discharge, facilitating their transition back home and ensuring quality care. You'll work independently and collaboratively, engaging with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality support. This permanent position offers a shift-based schedule including weekends, aimed at making a positive impact on patient recovery.

Qualifications

  • Must have clinical experience, ideally in Orthopaedics.
  • Experience as a Health Care Support Worker.
  • Ability to work independently and engage with a multidisciplinary team.

Band 3 Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Team - Health Care Support Worker

37 hours (Shift work 11.5-hour days including weekends, NO nights)

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) to join our Orthopaedic Supported Discharge Team. This team focuses on providing supported discharge rehabilitation from orthopaedic/major trauma hospital wards, followed by assessment and treatment within the patient's home environment for up to 4 weeks.

  • You will be required to drive to complete visits in the Edinburgh City area. Business car insurance is required for this role.

As an HCSW, you will be allocated visits to complete each shift. You will work independently and alongside team members, attending to patients' needs, facilitating functional rehab treatment plans, and delivering care as required without supervision. This includes progressing patients with functional tasks such as meals, washing, dressing, then reporting progress back to senior staff members. Full engagement with the multidisciplinary team is essential.

You will also support physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nurses through various non-clinical duties, including equipment ordering and referring patients to community teams.

Shifts within the OSD team are 11.5 hours. You will complete 3 shifts per week, with 4 shifts in one week each month.

Candidates must have clinical experience in various areas, ideally including Orthopaedics, and relevant/current experience as a Band 3 Support Worker.
