Job summary

Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust invites a GP with Special Interest in Dermatology to join a Tele dermatology Pilot Service. The role focuses on rapid assessment and triage of suspected skin lesions, guiding patients to urgent or routine pathways and leveraging high-quality imaging for decision making.

The post supports development of a modern dermatology service, with emphasis on diagnostic efficiency, patient access and safety. DBS check is required.

• Commitment to CPD and GMC revalidation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high quality dermatology care via teledermatology.

• Explain risks/benefits to patients and involve them in decisions.
• Participate in audit, supervision, appraisal and clinical governance.

Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced GP with a Special Interest (GPwSI) in Dermatology to join our innovative Tele dermatology Pilot Service.

This exciting pilot programme is focused on the rapid assessment and triage of suspected skin lesions, supporting the early identification of skin cancers and improving patient access to the most appropriate care pathways.

The service operates as a lesion-focused triage model, using high-quality clinical information and dermatology imaging .

The successful candidate will play a key role in, identifying lesions that require urgent investigation or treatment, and ensuring patients are directed efficiently to the correct pathway, whether that be urgent suspected cancer services, routine dermatology care, community-based management, or discharge with advice and guidance.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of a modern, patient-centered dermatology service that aims to improve diagnostic efficiency, reduce waiting times, and support earlier detection of skin cancer while maintaining high standards of clinical care and patient safety.

The vacancy is for x 2 session a week preferably on the same day. This role is a fixed term contract for 6 months.

• Provide safe, high quality, cost effective and evidence based care for patients meeting the Community Dermatology Service eligibility criteria
• Run assessment and diagnosis clinics for Tele dermatology and photographs are undertaken
• Recognise and follow the correct pathway for the management of patients with non malignant, per-malignant and malignant lesions
• Explain the risks and benefits of treatment options and involve patients in decisions about their management;
• Follow NICE guidelines for the management of skin cancers;
• Provide information, advice and support to patients with skin cancer
• Incorporate the principles of Clinical Governance into practice including conforming
• Update dermatology practice on a regular basis and undertake CPD as agreed participating in a continuing programme of clinical supervision
• Undergo appraisal and revalidation as per GMC requirements
• Undertake an agreed audit programme; recommending and originating areas for audit, review or development
• Work to agreed protocols as defined by the LMDT
• Be conversant with the Incident Reporting system
• Promote and raise awareness of the Tele dermatology pilot and Community Dermatology Service
• Raise any quality management issues and propose suggestions for improvement
