Job description
Overview

The Trust is seeking a General Practitioner Physician with Specialist Interest in Learning Disability to provide physical health support and prescribing to our health respite services for a 3 month period in the first instance.

Responsibilities

Are you committed to providing high quality Service User care? WE need you to help us achieve our goals; to live our lives free from stigma and discrimination; and to improve the lives of people with a learning disability and mental ill health. This post is based at St Mary’s Hospital, Leeds, and involves working with the Clinical Team Manager and Senior Nurses in the health respite service. You will provide medical oversight and support for service users accessing respite with complex multiple impairments and challenging behaviour. Prescribing will be a key element, working closely with the nursing team following pre-admission calls. The role includes annual reviews of service users within respite, and supporting the development of health respite, including the nursing team, to provide the best possible care. The role may also deliver medical consultancy across other parts of the learning disability service as required.

Qualifications and requirements
  • Experience as a GP
  • Extensive experience of working with service users with a learning disability and learning disability services.
  • Evidence of knowledge of diagnosis, treatment + management of complex physical/ mental illness associated with learning disabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Leeds health and learning disability 'system'.
