The New Barclay Fellowship 2027: help shape the future of general practice
Barclay Medical Practice | Glasgow, West Lothian and Edinburgh
Circa £70,000 | One-year fixed term | Five posts
General practice is entering a period of significant change. AI, digital innovation and practices working at scale are reshaping how primary care is delivered. We want recently qualified GPs to be part of leading that change — not simply watching it happen.
The Barclay Fellowship is a one-year salaried programme designed for GPs within two years of qualifying. You’ll work six clinical sessions per week at one of our 15 sites, supporting a diverse patient population of more than 130,000 patients, alongside two protected fellowship sessions each week.
Those protected sessions are your opportunity to turn ideas into action. You’ll lead a meaningful improvement project, with the ambition of seeing your work implemented across the wider Barclay group.
You’ll have access to a £12,000 training and development budget, alongside a named mentor with weekly support. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend Executive meetings, gaining first‑hand insight into leadership, strategy, management and the business of general practice — experience designed to support your career beyond the consulting room. Indemnity is covered.
Shape the Fellowship around where you want your career to go. Choose a focus in innovation & AI, research, finance & business, hard‑to‑reach communities, education, or women’s & sexual health — or bring us an idea of your own.
This is an opportunity to develop as a GP, build your leadership skills and make a measurable difference to primary care.
Start dates are available from November 2026 through to summer 2027. Applications are open now.
