Put medical education at the heart of your working week
Are you a GP with a passion for teaching who would like education to be the main focus of your role?
This is an exciting opportunity to join WellBN in an education-led post, with the substantial majority of your working week dedicated to supervising, teaching and supporting medical students rather than routine clinical sessions.
The role is particularly suited to a GP with an interest or background in medical education who enjoys helping students develop their clinical reasoning, consultation skills and understanding of patient-centred care.
Join us
If you would like to make teaching and student development the main focus of your working week, while retaining a smaller clinical commitment, we would love to hear from you.
There is an option to convert to a substantive post. Job-share applications are welcome.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments during recruitment.
You will oversee Year 4 and Year 6 medical students during their placements, helping them connect their learning with the realities of modern general practice. Through supervision, case discussion, feedback and teaching, you will support their development as confident, thoughtful and compassionate future doctors.
The post comprises seven sessions dedicated to educational supervision, alongside one or two clinical sessions per week. We welcome job-share applications from GPs interested in sharing the educational and clinical responsibilities.
During student placements, the emphasis will be on education: overseeing the students learning, reviewing clinical cases with them, discussing their assessments and management plans, and providing constructive feedback.
Between student placements, clinical cross-cover is expected to support the wider practice team.
An exciting new chapter for WellBN
WellBN is preparing to launch a new organisation in January 2027, alongside an upcoming rebrand and under new management.
Were developing a progressive, modern approach to general practice, with compassionate patient care, collaborative working and staff wellbeing at its heart. Joining at this stage offers the opportunity to contribute to the educational environment as the organisation develops.
WellBN serves approximately 25,500 patients across our Brunswick, Burwash and Benfield sites in Brighton, Hove and Portslade.
Our team includes a strong pharmacy service, paramedics and practice nurses. We use SystmOne and Accurx Triage and care for a diverse community, including neurodiverse patients and trans, non-binary and intersex patients, with training and support provided.
This setting offers students exposure to the breadth of modern primary care and the opportunity to learn how different professionals work together to support patients.
Your educational responsibilities
Clinical contribution
Alongside your educational sessions, you will undertake one or two clinical sessions per week, maintaining your connection with patient care and the clinical work that underpins your teaching.
You will also provide clinical cross-cover between student placements. This is therefore a predominantly educational post with a defined clinical contribution, rather than a wholly non-clinical role.
Support and professional development
Youll join a supportive multidisciplinary team, with mentoring and continuing professional development opportunities.
We welcome your ideas for teaching, student support and educational development. This role offers the opportunity to make medical education a central part of your career while remaining connected to clinical general practice.
