Job Summary

We are excited to announce we are looking for a GP assistant to join our team at De Beauvoir Surgery.

This role will be based at the practice in Hackney with core hours being Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week with the occasional Saturday.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include assisting and supporting with the management of the day-to-day operations, including patient queries, rotas, contractors, and support of administrative tasks and responsibilities, clinical queries, assisting and supporting the management of the practice in the reception area demonstrating leadership skills.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

  • Strategic Assistant on the Triage Appointment Pathway
  • Assisting and supporting with the management of the day-to-day operations, including patient queries, rotas, contractors, and administrative tasks.
  • Assisting with clinical triage, passing appointment requests to the GP, assisting with processing, and recalling patients for appointments.
  • Supporting GPs by reviewing patient history and baseline data where requested.
  • Supporting practice management in the reception area, demonstrating leadership skills.
  • Signposting received correspondence and appointment requests to other services, e.g., chemists, practice nurses, in collaboration with GPs.
  • Carrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
  • Facilitating routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients, and managing requests from local services.
  • Carrying out BMI checks as directed.
  • Acting as a chaperone as required.
  • Extracting information from clinical letters, applying medical codes, and updating patient notes.
  • Supporting patients by arranging appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-ups.
  • Completing basic forms and some forms for GP approval, e.g., insurance, mortgage, benefits forms.
  • Explaining appointment decisions and treatment procedures to patients.
  • Supporting GPs in liaising with external agencies, e.g., arranging patient admissions.
  • Undertaking mandatory training and attending annual appraisals.
  • Contributing to public health campaigns and maintaining a clean, effective working environment.

Additional duties may include personal development, participating in audits, practice initiatives, and shared learning within the PCN.

  • Essential: General practice experience desirable but training will be provided.
  • Desirable: Friendly and approachable manner, ability to work under pressure, excellent communication, team and independent working skills, flexibility in working pattern.
