You will join the Corporate Governance Team, managing key areas including risk management, audit, assurance mapping, and assessment of internal controls, management of agreements with other organizations, and compliance with key regulations such as the Corporate Governance Code. You will be responsible for coordinating policies and procedures and recommending changes across the organization. You need to be thorough, proactive, and committed to being the go-to specialist for corporate governance.

Main duties of the job
  • Leading the Corporate Governance Team to implement assurance, analysis, and reporting activities to ensure delivery of NHSBSA’s Strategy.
  • Driving best practice governance, risk, and assurance practices organization-wide.
  • Leading planning and management of governance activities, supporting effective delivery of objectives, including risk management, internal audit, annual report audit, controls assessment, and management of agreements.
  • Providing consultancy to Leadership and Senior Managers to improve governance.
  • Representing the Authority in governance forums externally as a subject matter expert.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Accountabilities include:

1. Leadership & Delivery
  • Design and lead the Corporate Governance Team to support effective controls, governance, and risk management, including managing the team budget.
  • Manage and develop team members.
  • Lead assurance activities and reviews to ensure strategy delivery.
  • Promote best practices and establish the team as a trusted advisor across NHSBSA.
  • Identify and share best practices and tools, and support colleagues in establishing controls and governance.
  • Provide assurance on risk and issue management effectiveness.
  • Review and improve team processes and reporting methods.
2. Governance, Risk, and Assurance
  • Lead planning and management of governance activities, including risk management, audits, and controls assessment.
  • Foster a culture of critical review and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with external requirements.
  • Develop and implement a Corporate Governance Framework.
  • Champion governance pathways and enable effective decision-making.
  • Advise senior leaders on governance, risk, and assurance matters.
  • Represent NHSBSA in external governance forums.
3. Reporting
  • Provide timely, accurate governance, risk, and assurance reports to senior committees and boards.
  • Use evidence-based insights to drive interventions and improvements.
  • Ensure data integrity and a single source of truth for governance information.
  • Present complex information clearly to senior stakeholders.
4. Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, supporting their governance and assurance needs.
  • Work with stakeholders to prioritize and document assurance activities.
  • Support understanding of governance frameworks and responsibilities.
5. Information Management and Knowledge Sharing
  • Embed and promote the Corporate Governance Framework across the organization.
